The Bluecoat Chambers are a gorgeous art gallery and creative hub which is sited in central Liverpool. The museum supports many creative projects and community ventures in the city. The Chambers themselves are the oldest surviving building in central Liverpool. Although the building was originally a school, it became the Bluecoat Society of Arts in 1927. It now claims to hold the oldest charitable arts trust in the whole of the United Kingdom. Following renovation of the building, the Bluecoat Chambers played an important part in Liverpool’s year as the European Capital of Culture in the United Kingdom.
Since the Chambers became an art centre, they have housed various art exhibitions and many different types of creative performances. Previous exhibitions have included appearance by artists as diverse as Claude Monet and Yoko Ono. In addition to visual arts, there is also a flexible performance art area. The museum regularly plays host to performers, and previous guests have included notable performers such as Stravinsky, Michael Nyman and the Last Poets.
