The museum of Liverpool is one of the premier tourist attractions in the Pier Head area of the city. It aims to share the story of Liverpool and its people, so that visitors can understand the city’s continuing global significance.
Permanent exhibitions in the museum are divided into four major themes: Wondrous Place, Great Port, Global City and People’s Republic. The Wondrous Place zone seeks to highlight the cultural impact that Liverpool has had on the world, from Liverpool Football Club through to the Beatles. Visitors will also be able to find out more about some of the city’s less well-known creative and sporting talents. The Great Port area talks about the trade and industrial heritage of the Port of Liverpool. As well as learning about shipping, there is also information about the Leeds-Liverpool canal and the railways that helped to put Liverpool at the forefront of the industrial revolution. Global City helps to showcase Liverpool’s place in the wider world, including information about the city’s role in the British Empire. The People’s Republic area shares the stories of real Liverpudlians and explores the way that living in the city has helped to shape the people who live there.
