The Wirral Transport Museum in Birkenhead is a fascinating place for a day out for those who enjoy historic mechanism, technology and transportation. Although the museum covers all forms of transport, the exhibits on show mainly include wheeled and rail-based vehicles.
Having originally been a tram shed for the Wirral Tramway, there is a large collection of memorabilia relating to tramways, including an example of a horse-drawn tram. The museum also contains a number of fully operational vintage trams, the most important of which is the Baby Grand Liverpool 245. On special occasions, vintage trams run between the museum and the Birkenhead ferry port.
The museum is dedicated to re-operationalisation projects which aim to restore other historic vehicles to working status. It may be possible to view the team at work on projects in their onsite workshops. Other attractions include; a 26 foot long model railway and a reconstruction of a 1930s motor garage scene, where visitors can experience historic motor technology. In additional to traditional transport exhibits, there is also a model crane, similar to the ones which would have played an important part in the shipping heritage of the docks.

I agree with what you say a very interesting place to visit. As a Solicitor born and bread in Wallasey I grew up using some of these old busses like the Leyland and a few others it’s also great to see the busses that my parents used in their heydays.
Overall I had a great day at the museum so did the children.
