As you probably guessed, yes this is the old home the city's world famous Beatles (well its as near as your gonna get to it). A Victorian warehouse (right) that used to stand in Mathew Street became a jazz club in 1957, but later started to feature 'beat groups'.

No not the Beatles, but 'Liverpool' the Swedish tribute act
The basement of the building was known as the Cavern Club. The Beatles played here nearly 300 times between March 1961 and August 1963. During that time Cilla Black was in charge of the cloakroom. Many other bands famous for the 'Mersey' sound played here, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Swinging Blue Jeans, the Searchers and Billy J. Kramer to name but a few.
The Cavern closed in 1973 and the warehouse was demolished to enable an underground railway to be constructed. In 1984 the present building, known as Cavern Walks was opened on the site.
If you're into the Beatles or not this club is an essential venue for all who like their music. With live bands, indie nights and student nights this sweaty club rocks almost every night of the week. An essential visit!
