School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX.
the Bluecoat is Liverpool's centre for contemporary arts, housed in the oldest building in the city centre. The building is currently closed for a major re-development and will re-open in early 2008 with a new wing, housing 4 galleries and a performance space, studio space for artist and creative industry tenants, as well as enhanced facilities, shops, restaurants-bar, cafe and garden. It will be the thriving hub at the centre of Liverpool's cultural life.
For many years Bluecoat Arts Centre (or Bluecoat Chambers as known to the natives) has been at the heart of Merseyside's cultural activity. Located centrally in the heart of Liverpool's shopping quarter, the centre itself is a Grade 1 listed building and is a tourist attraction in its own right.
On a visit to the centre you can expect to see art exhibitions, performances, educational events, arts fairs and live music. Such events occur on an ad-hoc basis so I would advise you to visit the Bluecoat website for more detailed information on coming attractions.
The Bluecoat's own promotions have achieved a national profile, with an award-winning art gallery presenting a continuous programme of innovative exhibitions, and a wide range of contemporary dance, music and other live events.
Facilities at the Bluecoat include a Café, Bookshop, Artshop, Fairs, Music, Performance art, Gallery, Craft, Literature, seasonal events and a garden for you to relax in.
